Another week of summer training is in the books. With the humidity rising and the sun waking up earlier than I do, last week was a lesson in patience, discipline, and embracing the “turtle pace.”
Here is the breakdown of the runs from last week (July 13 – July 19):
| Date | Distance | Avg Pace | Feel & Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 14 (Tue) | 10.37 km | 6'17’’ / km | Morning breeze, smooth and rhythmic rhythm ⚡ |
| July 16 (Thu) | 10.37 km | 6'39’’ / km | Temperature rising, actively controlled and slowed down 🐢 |
| July 17 (Fri) | 10.39 km | 6'29’’ / km | Classic route, steady sweating 🗺️ |
| July 18 (Sat) | 21.21 km | 6'13’’ / km | Summer LSD, managing cardiac drift in the second half 🏃♂️ |
| July 19 (Sun) | 13.01 km | 6'35’’ / km | Extended route, enjoying the long summer evening dusk 🌌 |
Total Distance: 65.35 km
Average Pace: ~6'25’’ / km

ApexRun Insights & Reflections#
My latest weekly summary came with a few telling nudges from the ApexRun Insight dashboard:
🐢 Pace Check: 5% Slower#
The app flagged that my average pace has drifted about 5% slower recently. The comic captures this perfectly—running with a heavy turtle on my back, looking a bit exhausted but pushing through!
The real reason is simple: summer heat. As the temperature climbs, cardiac drift kicks in much earlier. To maintain a low heart rate and ensure high-quality recovery, I have made a conscious effort to “press down” the pace and run easy. The next two months are all about building a robust aerobic base. Summer training is not about chasing PRs; it is about building the foundation.
⚡ Intervals Check: Quiet on the Speed Front#
The insight panel noted: “Haven’t trained intervals in a while, it’s been quiet lately—no other meaning, just mentioning it 👀.”
My thought bubble in the comic says it all—an alarm clock covered in spider webs next to dusty speed shoes. Speed training has been put on hold while I prioritize aerobic volume and temperature management. Once we get a cooler morning, I will dust off the intervals and bring speed sessions back into the rotation.
🏆 8 Weeks of Consistency!#
Despite the slower paces, consistency is key. The trophy in the comic celebrates 8 Weeks of Consistency (averaging 5–6 runs a week). Even if the runs are slower, the fitness is being built. “Slow and steady, but I did it!”
These hot, slow summer miles are money in the bank. When the autumn breeze finally arrives, the body will feel lighter, faster, and ready.
