Work out a pace, or convert one, without leaving the app
You're standing at the treadmill console, or on the start line doing the sums for a target time. The calculator is already on your phone, and it takes whatever shorthand you type.
The pace calculator and the pace converter on this site are in the app too, under Runner’s Toolkit at the bottom of the Profile tab. Same maths, no browser, no signal needed. They’re the two rows above the metronome.
Pace Calculator#
Three tabs across the top: Distance, Duration, Pace. Pick the one you want to know, fill in the other two, tap Calculate.
- Pace is the one you’ll use most. 10 km in 50:00 gives 5:00 per kilometre; a marathon in 3:30:00 gives 4:58.
- Duration answers “if I hold 5:30s, what’s my 10K?” Enter the distance and the pace.
- Distance answers “45 minutes at 6:00s is how far?”
The KM / MI switch sits beside the distance and sets the unit for both the distance and the pace, so pick it before you calculate. Switching tabs clears the fields.
Type it the short way#
The fields take shorthand, and it’s worth knowing so you don’t fight them:
- Pace:
5:30is five-thirty, and so are530and5.5. A bare5is 5:00. - Time:
45:30is forty-five and a half minutes,1:30:00is an hour and a half, and a bare30is thirty minutes. - Distance: a plain number,
10or21.1, in whichever unit the switch shows.
5.5 is 5:30, but 5.30 is 5:18. When you mean five minutes thirty, type 5:30 or 530.Unit Converter#
The other row. Four converters on one screen, each a pair of boxes with an arrow between them, and the right-hand box updates as you type in the left:
- Pace ↔ Speed, in kilometres (min/km to km/h)
- Pace ↔ Speed, in miles (min/mi to mph)
- Pace, km ↔ mi (min/km to min/mi)
- Speed, km ↔ mi (km/h to mph)
The first two rows share a heading, so tell them apart by the unit label beside the box. Tap the arrow on any row to convert the other way; it clears the row, ready for the new direction. Clear All at the bottom empties the screen.
The pace boxes take the same shorthand as the calculator (530, 5.5, 5:30); the speed boxes take a plain decimal.
This is the treadmill row. A console that says 11.5 km/h has a pace, and it’s 5:13 per kilometre; the row beneath does the same for a machine that speaks mph. Type the speed once and set the belt to the pace you actually train at, or the other way round: type your race pace and read off the speed to punch in.
Worth knowing#
- Both are free, and neither touches your runs. Nothing you type is saved, and nothing here changes a number on a run.
- For race-day planning, the web tools go further. The pace calculator on this site adds finish times at 5K, 10K, half and full marathon for the pace you enter, and the converter has a reference table. The in-app versions are the quick, offline ones.
- The pace on a run is already worked out for you. Every run in Apex Run shows its average and its splits; the calculator is for the runs you haven’t done yet.

The sums, done where you already are.
Both tools are free and sit under Runner's Toolkit on the Profile tab. Nothing is saved and nothing needs a connection, so they work in the gym basement as well as on the start line.
